1970s | The Stellar Seventies

The seventies were a flamboyant and flirtatious time period! Women and Men's clothing were becoming more androgynous and jeans were becoming a daily essential to wear. Media and Entertainment boomed during this time releasing infamous movies like Saturday Night Fever and the legendary Star Wars. The time the United States had finally got our troops out of Vietnam and the spread of love and flower power was going strong!

THE CHICKS

Women were continuing an empowering movement during this time. The 70s were a time for love and loose-fitting clothing. Paisleys and floral prints were seen everywhere, even on some Men's clothing. This decade hold the birth place of the bohemian and hippie style. Fringe, feathers, and tie dyed shirts were perfectly acceptable! Diane Von Furstenberg also introduced the first ever Wrap Dress during this time too!

In London, power suits were becoming very popular. You wouldn't be able to find a successful woman with out her polyester power suit that came in a variety of different patterns. You would also see many ladies in ponchos or capes, those were in style! Back in the states you could find a girl in a solid pair of high-waisted flared out jeans that were getting tighter and tighter as time went by! Platform shoes were common for both women and men.

THE HUNKS

John Travolta really set the bar high for fashion pieces for me to wear due to his stellar performance in Saturday Night Fever. Gold chains, chest hair, and side burns were so popular they were almost mandatory if you wanted to be seen as cool. Men also wore platform shoes and often paired it with their own flared out jeans and v neck sweaters. Thanks to the colorful personality of David Bowie,  lot of what could be worn by men, could also be worn by women. The two shared a lot of similar styles such as jeans and platforms.

Men also had a more gentlemanly side where tailored suits became popular. They wanted to look their best in a tailored ensemble with a sport coat. Men were also not afraid of any sort of pattern; striped, paisley or plaid, they could pair it with a solid color shirt and be ready to rumble.
